An Osun State Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, on Monday arraigned two women Rufiat Saliu, and Tosin Babatunde, for beating a Policeman in Ilesa.
The women, Rufiat, 22, Tosin, 50, and one other at large were charged for assaulting a Policeman, Sergent Akinro Dayo and one Olatiran Olasebikan by striking him with stick on his head.
According to Police Prosecutor, Inspector F. M Adebayo told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 11, 2020, at about 7:31 pm at Breweries express Ilesa.
He accused the defendants of defying the lockdown order imposed by State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola.
He disclosed that the defendants did assault one Sergent Akinro Dayo and one Olatiran Olasebikan by striking him with a stick on his head and inflicting an open injury on him.
He further alleged that the defendants did conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by raising abusive words on the Police officer and other security agencies.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them by the police
Defence counsel, Kehinde Adepoju applied for the bail of the accused persons in most liberal terms promising they will not jump bail.
According to the charge sheet, the offence committed is contrary and punishable under section 61,516,356,355 and 249(d) of the criminal code Cap 34 Vol ll laws of Osun State 2002.
In her ruling, Magistrate Modupe Awodele granted the accused persons bail in the sum of 100,000 naira.
She adjourned the case till July 20, 2020, for mention at Ilesa Magistrate court
