COVID-19 lockdown: Police arrest 97 violators in Kano

The Police Command in Kano State has said it arrested 97 persons for attending night clubs in defiance of the lockdown order aimed at curtailing the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Kano, NAN reports.

The DSP said that the command had on June 6, at about 1:00 a.m. received reliable information that some persons gathered and were clubbing at Mozida Hotel and Club 47 in Sabon Gari area of the metropolis.

He also explained that upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Habu Ahmad, ordered for the arrest of the violators.

“97 defaulters were arrested for indulging in social gatherings and clubbing during the lockdown.

The arrested persons include 40 females and 57 males, and also the managers of the clubs.

“The defaulters have been charged to court for prosecution,” he added.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria as of today is 12,486, according to the NCDC.
